GUWAHATI: A senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer died by suicide in Guwahati city of Assam on Tuesday (June 18).
The deceased IPS officer has been identified as Shiladitya Chetia.
Chetia was serving as the secretary to the Assam government’s home and political department.
He reportedly took his own life by shooting himself at Nemcare hospital in Guwahati in Assam.
The incident occurred shortly after Chetia received the news of his wife’s passing.
She had been battling cancer.

Chetia served in various capacities within the police force, including crucial administrative roles.
According to sources close to the family, he was in the hospital when he learned about her demise.
Overcome with sorrow, Chetia made the fateful decision to end his own life.
The news of Chetia’s death has sent shockwaves through the Assam police department.
According to reports, he was on leave for the past four months.
“Entire Assam police family is in deep grief,” stated DGP GP Singh.
