The Dhubri district forest officials on Wednesday raided the premises of Dhubri Boys’ Club near Mela Maidan and busted an illegal trade of turtle meat.

The officials were successful in stopping the sell of the turtle meat, however, those involved with the illegal trade managed to escape from the spot.

The raid was carried out after the forest officials received a tip-off about the meat trade.

A turtle weighing around 20 kilograms was cut down by miscreants and they were all set to sell it for Rs 1200 per kg.

This is a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The club was earlier sealed by the Dhubri district administration for illegal activities and has been re-sealed again on Wednesday.

A manhunt has been launched to nab those involved in the trade and police said they are confident of arresting the miscreants soon.
