With permission from the local authority, Believers Eastern Church Satgaon Mission Diocese in collaboration with 3 IR Mizo Battalion, Lanka conducted an awareness campaign and distributed essential commodities among 20 families at Lanka in Assam’s Hojai on Friday afternoon.
Rev Fr Thanghao highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene and practical illustration on hands washing with soap or hand sanitizer was shown to them.
In addition, as a call given by the Prime Minister to light diyas, torch, candle and switch off the lights for nine minutes on April 5 (Sunday), he requested the public to co-operate in the regard.

F Lalhmingliana, assistant commandant, 3 IR Mizo Batallion requested the public to maintain social distance and cooperate the government in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme was conducted maintaining social distance.
The 20 needy families were provided with basic needs each receiving five kg rice, three kg dal, 10 kg potato, one kg onion, one kg turmeric and one kg salt.
On the other hand, Lanka based, Omprakash Pramila Devi Memorial Charitable Trust with the help of the district administration and Hojai Police, aided 140 needy families with essential commodities for a week who are facing serious scarcity of food.
Rohit Agarwalla, trustee, informed that they have distributed food packets amongst the needy people of the Pipalpukhuri and Shambari area near Lanka town on Friday with the help and co-operation of office-in-charge of Lanka Police Biswajit Sarma and his team.
The food packets consisted of rice, dal, salt and soap for handwash.
“We have also distributed printed pamphlets in local languages, containing authentic information about the coronavirus disease to distribute the same among the people to create awareness,” he added.
