Assam finance and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday asked the landlords, and owners of paying guests (PGs) and private hostels to provide concessions while collecting rent from their lockdown-hit tenants.
Sarma asked the owners of PGs to waive 50 per cent of rents for their student tenants in the month of April.
“Landlords of PG for students may kindly consider 50 per cent waiver in rent for April,” Sarma said in a tweet.
He also urged landlords, who are housing private sector employees, to waive rents from people not having regular income.
“Landlords housing pvt sector employees may please be considerate since salaries disbursals are affected. It will be a kind help,” Sarma tweeted.

Meanwhile, Sarma also said eight COVID-19 patients were discharged from the hospitals after their samples were found negative for the virus in 3-4 successive tests.
With these cases, the total number of discharged COVID19 patients in Assam now stands at 27.
While addressing a press conference at the state office of the National Health Mission in Guwahati, minister Sarma said: “With the discharge of 8 more COVID19 patients, the state now has only 7 actives cases.”
He also announced that they would be able to discharge some of the active cases after their recovery before April 30.
Assam has registered 35 COVID-19 positive cases so far.
