Pathsala: A 54-year-old Haj pilgrim from lower Assam’s Barpeta district died in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, reports said on Monday.
Zarina Begum, a resident of Howly in Barpeta district, had embarked on the Hajj pilgrimage with her husband Abul Hussain on May 18.
According to family members, Begum fell suddenly ill and was hospitalized at Mecca. However, she passed away while undergoing treatment.
The family will hold funeral prayers for Begum in Mecca. Her husband informed them of the sad news, leaving them heartbroken.
The Hajj, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, is a mandatory pilgrimage for able-bodied Muslims who have the means to perform it at least once in their lifetime.
