GUWAHATI: At least two schoolgirls from Guwahati in Assam reportedly went missing amid Saraswati Puja celebrations.

Saraswati Puja was celebrated across Assam on Wednesday (February 14).

Assam police suspects the role of human traffickers in the disappearance of the two minor schoolgirls from Guwahati.

The police have reportedly identified two youths, who are suspected to be involved in the disappearance of the two minor schoolgirls from Guwahati, Assam.

The two accused youths have been identified as Rahul and Mithun.

According to reports, while Rahul hails from Nalbari district, Mithun is a resident of Nagaon district in Assam.

The two minor schoolgirls, who went missing had reportedly known both the youths from before.

They had also visited one of the girls at her home a few days ago, the police informed.

The missing schoolgirls are stated to be aged around 13-14 years.

The missing girls have been identified as: Madhusmita Baishya and Bandita Bhowmik.

Both the girls are students of Panchadeep Jatiya Vidyalaya, located at Noonmati in Guwahati city of Assam.

Moreover, the mobile phones of both the girls are stated to be switched-off.

On Thursday (February 15) morning, a WhatsApp message surfaced, wherein the message claimed that the girls fled out of their own free will.

The message specified that they were looking to gain success and will work on it for the next five years.

The message further asked the police and media to stay away and not try to track them. All such attempts would be futile, it added.

The veracity of the sender of the message, though remains up for grabs.

It may be noted that initially after returning home having gone out on the occasion of Saraswati Puja yesterday, the duo again went out and did not return.
