Assam on New Year has witnessed a decline in the accident trend by almost 70 percent with no accidents reported from Guwahati.

On New Year, the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) has reportedly registered a total of around 293 cases of which only 39 were road accidents whereas, in the previous year, it had recorded almost 500 and more cases.

Gauhati Medical College and Hospital superintendent, Abhijit Sarma stated that there was not a single road accident case reported from Guwahati city.

The 39 road accident cases registered in the GMCH were all referral cases from other districts.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta said New Year’s night was a zero accident day with no reports from Guwahati.

Mahanta informed that the police had set up 55 check posts as strategic locations to prevent accidents this year and the coordination by the police teams made it a success.
