Ahead of the new year, Guwahati Traffic Police have prepared to take strict actions against traffic violators.

Traffic police officials have said that they have taken a strategic plan to prevent accidents in the city and specifically during the new year.

Special measures and steps are being taken to prevent reckless driving and overspeeding cases.
Apart from that, a special drive has also been initiated to prevent cases of drunk driving.

The police are also enforcing helmet laws in the city to ensure that every motorcyclist including the rider and the pillion wears helmets.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered the police department to ensure that no accidents take place during the New Year celebrations.

The police said that with these new operations by the traffic, on Wednesday night, they have succeeded in intercepting 26 drunk drivers.

The Guwahati Police in a tweet said, “Drive Against Drunken Driving Yesterday night 26 people were intercepted for drunk driving. Their licences are being suspended & a Fine of ?10,000/- being imposed on them,” the Guwahati Police tweeted.

 

To ensure zero cases of drunk driving, the police have re-introduced the usage of the breathalyzer.
