Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday (July 6) visited Guwahati’s Jyotinagar area and met the parents of Abinash Sarkar, an eight-year-old boy who went missing in a tragic incident that took place near a temple of the locality on Thursday (July 4).
Abinash, son of Harilal Sarkar, a resident of Shyamnagar in Bhawanipur of Guwahati’s Noonmati area, remains untraced following the incident. CM Sarma also visited the incident site and took stock of the ongoing search operations.
He directed the concerned departments and search teams to intensify their operation to locate the child, the Chief Minister’s Public Relations cell said in a press statement on Saturday night.
Briefing the media, CM Sarma said that teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have carried out several rounds of search operations so far to locate the missing child.
He said the teams have been directed to conduct a search operation from the incident site to the sluice gate of Bharalu River, it said.
Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Special Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh, Guwahati Commissioner of Police (CP) Diganta Barah, District Commissioner (DC) Sumit Sattawan and several other senior officials were present during the Chief Minister’s visit, it added.
The incident took place when Abinash fell into an open storm water drain after slipping from his father’s two-wheeler. Soon after the incident, multiple agencies launched search operations using several machineries and sniffer dogs.
