Assam government has decided to provide financial assistance to the stranded students who return to the state using their own means of transportation including buses and cars.
A large number of students from Assam have remained in various states in the country due to the nationwide lockdown in view of COVID19 pandemic.
The state government has announced Rs 5,000 each to the students who have come from the western and southern parts of India, Rs 3,000 each to the students who have returned from northern India.
The state government announced that it would Rs 2,000 each to those who have returned from the states in eastern India.
The amount to be provided by the state government will be transferred to the accounts of the students after they return to Assam.

Meanwhile, a student from Assam through her Twitter handle said there are approximately 65 students from Assam, who are remaining stranded in Punjab.
She also said they have arranged 3 buses for coming back to their homes in Assam.
The student sought help from the Assam government.
She also tweeted: “And we are ready to pay the half amount of the buses and need your help for half amount. Thank you.”
On May 5, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while sharing pictures of Assam students coming from Rajasthan tweeted: “For notice of all concerned – 44 students from Assam studying in Mewar University, Chittorgrah (Rajasthan) are returning to Assam in two buses. They have all the requisite permissions & passed from the state government. They may please be allowed unhindered travel.”
On Thursday, several people including students, patients, and other stranded people arrived in Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. They were welcomed by health minister Sarma at the stadium.
The state government has made arrangements to quarantine them.
