As many as five houses were gutted in a massive fire at Naliapool area in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Monday.

According to locals, the fire caught from one house, which was closed for many days.

“The fire has destroyed lakhs of properties. The fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire after it damaged the properties. One cylinder was exploded in the fire,” said a source.

“After investigation, we can ascertain the exact cause of the fire. No one was injured and in the fire,” Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said.

On June 30, at least 30 houses were gutted in a massive fire at Tinkonia near Polo ground in Dibrugarh.

It is suspected that the fire caught due to short circuit.

Most of the houses were made of bamboo and the fire caught easily and engulfed the entire area.
