First vice chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty was on Saturday felicitated at Assam’s Hojai.
The felicitation programme was organized by Rabindranath Tagore University Teachers’ Association (RTUTA) at Bharat Tirtha Bhawan in RTU.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Chakraborty said, “Rabindranath Tagore’s maximum philosophies resembles to Srimanta Sankardev philosphy and Vaishnavite movement.”
He asserted, “Our focus in RTU along with studies and other cultural activities will be to promote cultures of all the ethnic groups of the society and make scope for the research work on Srimanta Sankardev, Madhavdev, Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla and other legendary icons of Assam and the nation.”
“Every citizen of Hojai district and surrounding area needs to work together with unison along with us to make RTU an excellent university,” the vice chancellor stated.
Dr Chakraborty was warmly honoured with a bouquet, kheerai, citation, phulam gamcha by RTUTA.
The Hojai district unit of Asom Sahitya Sabha and Hojai College Alumni Association also felicitated him.
The programme was presided over by Lakshan Patgiri, president of RTUTA.
Former minister Ardhendu Kr Dey and Biman Kr Bhatta, registrar, RTU also shared the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, former Congress minister Dr Dey lauded the efforts of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for whose endeavour the dream of the university in Hojai is accomplished.
Registrar Biman Bhatta briefly highlighted the history of Hojai College.
It is to be mentioned that on June 1 earlier this year, the vice chancellor joined at Governor’s office in Guwahati and on June 7 took over the charge at Rabindra Nath Tagore University in Hojai.
Notably, in the year 1964 Hojai College was established and in the year 2017 this was declared to be Rabindra Nath Tagore University by Government of Assam.
