electricity supply in Darrang

The APDCL authorities have served notice to the Bechimari Development Block in Assam’s Darrang district for unauthorised use of electricity.

At a time when the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) authorities have disconnected power supply to domestic consumers for not paying bills just for a couple of months, the same authorities have not taken any action against the development block for paying power bill for one-and-half-years.

The unauthorized use of power supply to the extent of 13 KW against the permitted sanction load capacity of 4 KW and also consuming power without a functional electric meter was detected in the development block during a load survey by the officials of Kharupetia Electrical Sub Division under APDCL.

This led to the heavy loss of power charges as stated by Suman Das, manager, Kharupetia Electrical Sub-division.

Meanwhile, the APDCL authorities have served a notice to the BDO of Bechimari Development Block asking them to pay an amount of Rs 46,000 including penalty charges.

“Their sanctioned load capacity was 4 kilowatt. However, they went on to increase it to 13 kilowatt,” Suman Das said.

“Their meter stopped functioning nearly one-and-half-years ago. But they neither approached us for its replacement nor purchased a new meter,” said Suman Das.

“A notice has been served and a week time has been given, failure of which the power supply to the office would be disconnected and necessary legal action may be followed,” Das further stated.
