Assam police on Sunday nabbed eight persons for gambling in the Khalihamari area near the BSNL office in Dibrugarh.

Police have seized playing cards and recovered Rs 69, 230 and eight mobile phones from them.

“After getting secret information, we conducted a raid at Khalihamari near BSNL office and apprehended eight persons, who were found gambling.  We have recovered Rs 69,230 cash from their possession,” said a police official.

According to sources, such anti-social activities are growing in Dibrugarh after the Covid-19 lockdown and many people were found involved in such anti-social activities.

“In many areas of Dibrugarh, such anti-social activities are running under the nose of district administration. The police should intervene,” said a source.

The accused were booked under the relevant sections of the Assam Games and Betting Act, 1970.
