SILCHAR: Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu has written to the National Testing Agency (NTA) requesting setting up of additional examination centres for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in the Barak Valley region of the state.

Barak Valley in Assam, which includes the districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, currently has only one CUET exam centre located in Silchar.

This limited availability has created significant challenges for students, forcing them to travel long distances to cities such as Agartala (Tripura), Shillong (Meghalaya), and Guwahati to take exams in subjects like Bengali and Environmental Science (EVS).

In his letter, Pegu emphasized the difficulties faced by students due to the need to travel to distant locations for their exams.

“The students will face immense problems traveling to such distant places to appear for CUET,” he stated.

Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu urged the NTA to establish additional exam centres for Bengali and EVS in Silchar to alleviate these travel burdens and provide better access to exam facilities for students in the Barak Valley.

He highlighted the importance of ensuring that students can take their exams without the added stress and logistical challenges of traveling long distances.

This appeal aims to improve the accessibility and convenience of the CUET for students in the Barak Valley, ensuring they have a fair opportunity to participate in the entrance test without undue hardship.
