Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday said that the state government would soon create posts of professors for the Assam Women’s University at Jorhat in Assam.
The Assam Women’s University is the only university for women in the Northeast.
The minister was on a trip to Jorhat during which he visited the university and met the vice chancellor-in-charge Ashok Bhattacharyya and registrar Tapan Gohain.
The university since its inception in September 2013 is being run by assistant professors and a mentor followed by a vice chancellor-in-charge, barring the appointment of Malinee Goswami in September, 2019.
She, however, left before completing even one year due to personal reasons.

“The posts for professors will be created for the university when the government will recruit one lakh teachers in the near future,” Pegu said.
Pegu also assured that he would incorporate funds for the university in the next budget.
He further said that he would develop the infrastructure of the university and resolve its land problems.
The university is established on a plot of land, which housed a granary of the Assam Agricultural University.
The granary has been restructured and added to the existing building of the university to accommodate classrooms, staff room and other facilities.
