Police have arrested one alleged drug peddler and seized 17 grams of heroin from his possession in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Based on secret information, a team of police led by DSP (P) A. J. Borah launched an operation at Maijan area of Dibrugarh and nabbed one drug peddler with 17 grams of heroin from his possession.

“We have launched a crackdown against drugs in Dibrugarh and so far we have seized huge amount of contraband and arrested many drug peddlers from Dibrugarh district. Our crackdown against drugs will continue,” said Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police (HQ) Padmanav Baruah.

In another operation, Dibrugarh police seized fake currency notes of Rs 21000 (Rs 500 denomination) and arrested one Afjal Khan from Paltan Bazar area.

The accused has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

A case (no. 2206/20) under section 489(B)/489 (C)/ 34 of the IPC was registered at Dibrugarh police station.
