Residents of Ward no 19 under Hojai Municipal Board in Assam’s Hojai are having a miserable time owing to the dilapidated conditions of its Hojai-Jugijaan main road.
Locals alleged the entire road of the stretch of nearly 6.9 kilometers is full of big pot-holes, which is unsafe for commuters and incidents of accidents are common affair.
They further alleged that rainy season adds to the already formed ditch and turns into ponds.
During, this COVID-19 pandemic, this road is crucial for the authorities and denizens, because to reach to the dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Jugijaan, one has to ply through this vital road.
Talking to the reporters, Abdul Ahad, general secretary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Trust and a resident of the area on Monday said, “Our controversial MLA Shiladitya Dev recently said Hojai has developed immensely under his able leadership within last four years, but it is unfortunate to inform that the main road connecting the town with Jugijaan is completely in woeful condition, the drainage here is fully blocked as a consequence of which even in slight shower, waterlogs on the road, and in minutes scene turns into flash flood.”
He said, “We have complained many times to HMB Commissioner, Borphukuri GP President and other concerned authorities about the situation of the road, but they never pay heed to our complaints.”
Ahad further informed that losing hope from the local MLA Shiladitya Dev and concerned authorities, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Trust with support of local public has come up with an intiative to clean the blocked drainage of the area to provide some relief to the residents from waterlogging problem.
The trust have also appealed the mass to join hands in their mission and requested the government and local administration to look into the matter immediately and repair the road.
