Rongmola village, around five km away from Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s paternal home Muluk Gaon was washed away into the Brahmaputra River in the recent flood.
Rongmola village under Chabua revenue circle in Dibrugarh district in upper Assam was washed away due to massive erosion and hundred families have been taking shelter in government built shelter home.
The families have been shifted to safer place to save them from erosion.

Their houses were washed away by flood and erosion.
Due to flood and erosion the entire population has to shift in the shelter home.
Shymal Das, 30 years old villager of Rongmola said that due to massive erosion their village was wiped out into the river Brahamaputra.
“This year flood has mostly affected us. Altogether 57 houses were washed away into the river and now the families were taking shelter into government shelter home,” das said.
“For last one week the erosion has been massive. Huge chunks of land were eroded into the river. For past few years erosion started in our area and the entire area was engulfed into the river. Our cropland was also washed away into the river. We depend on agriculture but the flood and erosion affected us the most,” he added.

Meanwhile, big trees and houses were washed away into river.
Thakurmoni Namasudra, 60-year-old resident said every year flood and erosion take a toll on them and take way everything from them.
“We are living in the area since many years and witnessed the nature’s fury. We are getting the relief from the government. But those are not sufficient to fulfill the needs of flood victims,” Namasundra added.
Moreover, some of the houses were damaged by the flood in the area were now seen shifting the materials and temporarily building their houses near the government shelter where hundreds of families were living.
“Yesterday a team has comes to us and provided relief materials to us and instructed many things to us and health check up done and instructed us to drink water after giving medicine which were provided by them,” said Shymal Das.
“We are providing medicines and relief materials to the people as per the instruction from the deputy commissioner of Dibrugarh. Our main job is to create awareness the people to save them from diseases. We have provided them a medicine which would be mixed to water before drinking,” said an health official.
In Dibrugarh district as many as 43,328 population have been affected by the flood. Sixty two villages in the district were under water.
Among the 62 villages affected by flood, 10 falls under Chabua revenue circle, 40 under Dibrugarh west, seven under Dibrugarh east, four under Moran and three under Tingkong.
“Altogether 1412 inmates are living in relief camps and total six relief camps were set up in flood affected area. We have distributed relief materials to the flood victims and taking all measures to help the flood affected people,” said Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha.
