Dibrugarh University registrar Hari Chandra Mahanta and deputy registrar (finance & accounts) Diganta Borah have been suspended for their alleged involvement in the financial anomalies in the university.

Professor Jiten Hazarika, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University and Director in-charge of the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning will be the interim registrar till the completion of the disciplinary proceedings and till the further decision of the university executive council on the same.

Similarly, Paramananda Sonowal, Joint Registrar (Administration), will also look after finance and accounts till the completion of the disciplinary proceedings and till the further decision of the executive council on the same.

Both Mahanta and Borah have been asked to be available in the office on-call and extend necessary cooperation to the fact-finding committees, constituted by the Chancellor, Dibrugarh University and the Executive Council, Dibrugarh University.

Earlier, Assam governor cum Dibrugarh University chancellor had constituted a fact-finding committee to probe the alleged financial irregularities, embezzlement of public funds and mismanagement by vice-chancellor Ranjit Tamuli.

The committee has been constituted to enquire into various allegations on financial irregularities, to verify and authenticate signatures, handwriting etc., in documents, to examine documents and ascertain facts, to interact with various persons concerned in order to ascertain facts, to do all necessary as per law in order to unearth facts.

The teaching and student fraternity as well as the employees’ body of the university have staged protests against the alleged financial scam by the vice-chancellor.
