Dibrugarh Police during an operation on Sunday conducted a raid at the residence of one Ananta Gogoi and seized 58 grams of suspected heroin and cash worth Rs 93,000 from his possession.

Police have arrested drug peddler Ananta Gogoi under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

“After getting specific information, we conducted an operation and seized 58 grams of suspected heroin and cash amount of Rs 93,000 from the possession of one Ananta Gogoi,” said Rajiv Saikia, officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station.

“We have arrested the person and forwarded him to the court,” police officer Saikia said.

Dibrugarh Police during their continued efforts against drug smuggling activities have arrested many drug peddlers and seized a huge quantity of drugs.

“Ananta Saikia brought the recovered drugs for sale. There have been complaints against him from the residents of Nirmali Gaon as many youths used to come to him to procure drugs,” said police sources.

Recently, in two separate incidents, Dibrugarh Police conducted raids in two different locations and seized 27 kg of ganja from Panchali area of Dibrugarh and seized 6.30 grams of heroin and 21.52 grams of brown sugar from Lahowal.

“Many youths have been taking drugs and are involved in drug peddling to get easy money. The growing cases of drug trafficking is a serious concern for the society,” sources added.

Dibrugarh superintendent of police Shwetank Mishra said, “Assam Police has launched a war against drugs and in connection with the war against drugs, we also have launched operation against drugs trade in Dibrugarh.”

“As part of our efforts, we have successfully arrested one drug peddler on Sunday. Recently, we arrested two other persons, who are associated with drugs trade,” the Dibrugarh Police chief said.
