Dhubri Police seized a huge quantity of Yaba tablets worth several lakhs and arrested two drug peddlers from the Dighaltari area under Golakganj police station, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

Acting on specific inputs, Dhubri Police intercepted a bike coming from West Bengal’s Coochbehar and recovered 500 tablets from the possession of two drug peddlers.

The drug peddlers were identified as Alamin and Fazor Ali, both are residents of the Cooch Behar district.

Later, a follow-up action was initiated on the basis of inputs received from the arrested drug peddlers.

Accordingly, the police conducted a raid in the house of one Nasir Mond of Dighaltari village under Golakganj police station in Dhubri district.

During the raid, the police recovered another consignment of Yaba 1000 tablets along with 200 grams of suspected drugs in powder form, said police.

Yaba tablets are also called Amphetamines or party drugs.

“The price of the seized Yaba tablets is approximately Rs 5 lakh in the international market. It seems that the duo was trying to smuggle the drugs to Bangladesh,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, in another action, Dhubri police seized four vehicles carrying illegal poultry and handed over the same to the Veterinary department for further action.
