The Dhubri police in Assam arrested six drug peddlers and recovered huge consignments of contraband items including brown sugar, worth lakhs of rupees in the last 48 hours.

This was informed by Dhubri SP – Abhijit Gaurav on Tuesday. 

“We have started a war on drugs. Our agenda is very clear – to eliminate drug mafia from entire Dhubri district,” the SP informed. 

“Many are involved in illegal drug smuggling. They mostly target students,” the police further informed. 

The recovered items include 20 small containers of brown sugar, 11,520 numbers of Spsphen Plus Capsules, 1728 numbers of Onereex cough syrups and 33 numbers of Codeine cough syrups. 

“When we raided a house located at Khagrabari village under Gauripur police station, police recovered 20 small containers of Brown Sugar from the possession of a peddler and arrested him on the spot,” said Dhubri SP.

On the other hand, acting on a specific input, officials of the Chapar police station conducted a search operation at  Puthimari area and intercepted a vehicle and seized the huge consignments of contraband drugs. 

Three persons have also been arrested in connection with the seizure. The arrested persons have been identified as Hashem Ali, Gias Uddin and Abdul Motleb. 

Two more drug peddlers were arrested from Dhubri and Gauripur town respectively.  

The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Md Samsul Hussain of Bidyapara area in Dhubri town and Biki Dey of Khagrabari village under Gauripur police station.
