Assam’s Dhemaji district registered 26 new COVID-19 cases in a single day spike on Thursday.

Dhemaji joint director of Health Services, Dr Krishna Khemprai informed that the district has recorded 113 active COVID-19 cases so far, while it has discharged 358 coronavirus patients from different hospitals.

No death caused by COVID-19 infection has been registered in the district so far.

Dr Khemprai further informed that his department on Thursday launched ‘Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19’ at community level, and said that it would be continued for more a few weeks.

As such, the health staff tested altogether 745 swab samples on the day, out of which 26 found coronavirus positive.

The Health department has set up three testing centers in flood-raved Jonai sub-division – two at Jonaibazar and another at Simenchapori.

It has performed 188 swab tests on the first day thereby detected six positive cases.

Jonai SDM& HO Dr Kishore Kumar informed that his staff will conduct more tests for the rural people.

He did not rule out detection of more COVID-19 cases in the sub-division.
