The role of Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta in the road accident case involving model Rajkanya Baruah has come under the scanner.
Guwahati-based neurosurgeon Dr. Navanil Barua, who was questioned by police on Friday for allegedly helping Rajkanya Baruah to avoid police investigation, reportedly told the investigating officer that he had informed DGP Mahanta before admitting the model to the GNRC hospital.
The neurosurgeon Dr. Barua had allegedly admitted 29-year-old Rajkanya to the hospital on October 3 by signing a “false medical certificate” about a head injury.
Dr. Barua, however, denied the allegation that he was protecting Rajkanya by issuing false certificates.
The model skipped police interrogation on Wednesday citing that certificate.

According to reports, the neurosurgeon had consulted with DGP Mahanta before shifting her to IUC at GNRC.
Dr. Barua kept the DGP in the loop about the entire development and the Assam police chief reportedly gave ‘go ahead’ for admitting the former Miss India finalist to ICU.
DGP Mahanta on Saturday admitted that Dr. Barua was in touch with him on October 4.
“It’s true that Dr. Barua contacted me on the telephone. He also sent text messages on my mobile number on October 4,” Mahanta told reporters in Guwahati on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Dispur police quizzed Barua for the second day on Saturday in connection with the case.
A lower court in Guwahati on Friday sent the model to 14-day judicial custody.
The Assam police on Wednesday re-arrested Rajkanya who was granted bail within 24 hours of knocking down eight people with her car on GS Road in Guwahati on October 2.
