Dejoo Tea Estate hospital becomes best tea gardens in Assam Photo: Northeast Now

NORTH LAKHIMPUR: The Dejoo tea estate hospital in Lakhimpur has become the best tea garden hospital in Assam. The hospital has already bagged the Best Tea Garden Hospital Award by the Assam government on November 23 this year.

Goodricke India’s Dejoo tea estate, located on the banks of Ranganadi river stretching from the picturesque slopes of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border has been in focus since a long time for its developmental works for the betterment of employees, workers and environment under the  stewardship of Jyotirmoy Kakati, the senior manager.

The hospital in Dejoo Tea Estate has a 30 bedded facility which is managed by a doctor, two nurses, one pharmacist, one laboratory technician and paramedical staffs.

The hospital is serving six thousand resident population of Dejoo tea estate along with unspecified patients from surrounding villages under Nowboicha Revenue Circle.

The tea garden which used to be infamous for malaria few years back has now been reporting no malaria cases in the last four years due to persistent anti-malaria activities in the workers colony initiated by the management.

There has been no infant mortality cases and no maternal mortality cases in last three years. Besides these, awareness meetings on health, sanitation, hygiene and healthy food habits are being organized regularly in collaboration with district health department in the tea garden.

These activities are showing a positive result as there is no epidemic reported in Dejoo tea estate during the last few years. It may be recalled that Dejoo tea estate received the Best Tea Garden Hospital Award on Shramik Kalyan Divas at Rangapara in Sonitpur on 23 November where Jyotirmoy Kakati , Manager, Dejoo Tea Estate received the award from Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
