NC Hills Autonomous Council principal secretary and Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa on Tuesday flagged off an awareness rally as part of the month-long Rashtriya Poshan Maah.

This is under the Poshan Abhiyaan flagship programme being implemented in the district simultaneously with the rest of the country from September 1 to 30.

A large number of Anganwadi workers, helpers, supervisors, CDPOs and other officials of the Social Welfare department took part in the rally.

T T Daulagupu, secretary in-charge for Social Welfare department, Dr Dipali Barman, joint director of Health Services, Nirmendu Kemprai, in-charge deputy director, Social Welfare department, Purabi Phonglo, DIPRO and officials from line departments were present during the programme.

A meeting involving various line departments was also held after the rally at the Haflong District Library Auditorium to discuss the various activities that are being carried out in the district as part of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah.

Briefing about the objective of the programme Sonjit Chakma, Swasth Bharat Prerak, Dima Hasao said that this programme is to address the issue of malnutrition and improve the nutritional outcomes for children, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a targeted approach and convergence of various nutrition related schemes under various line departments.

Rajkhowa spoke about various types of foods and vegetables and their nutritional value among the people.

He requested all line departments to actively participate and make this into a mass movement in order to make the country free from malnutrition.

Nirmendu Kemprai welcomed all the guests and people present during the programme.

He also requested all line departments to actively participate in all the programmes chalked out as part of the Poshan Abhiyan.
