Assam has registered 2,886 new COVID19 cases on Tuesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 48,161.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Tuesday night said the new COVID19 positive cases have been detected out of 59,064 tests conducted in the state in the last 24 hours.

“Alert ~ 2886 COVID cases detected out of 59,064 tests in last 24 hrs~ maximum in a day so far. Positivity Rate- 4.86%,” health minister Sarma tweeted.

The health minister informed that of the new positive cases, Kamrup Metro district has reported 550 cases, Kamrup Rural district has reported 294 cases, Nagaon district has reported 213 cases and 201 positive cases have been detected in Dibrugarh district.

With the new cases, Assam currently has 14,615 active COVID19 cases while 3 cases have migrated from the state.

A total of 33,428 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various Covid Care Centres across Assam after they tested negative.

On Tuesday 6 more positive patients succumbed to COVID19 infections in Assam, taking the death toll in the state to 115.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Sarma in an earlier tweet on Tuesday said the COVID19 victims are from Jorhat, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Sonitpur districts.

Sarma informed that the COVID19 victims have been identified as 72-year-old Sradhona Sarkar from Jorhat district; 43-year-old Pranab Saikia and 60-year-old Aarati Limbu from Tinsukia district; 48-year-old Manik Sarkar and 48-year-old Bhaban Likson from Dibrugarh district and 63-year-old Sajal Acharjee from Sonitpur.

India has registered 52,020 cases in the 24 hours for a 6th straight day, taking the country’s COVID19 tally to 1,878,382.

After conducting over 20 million COVID19 tests, India’s positivity rate is now at over 8% while the country’s death toll stands at 39,188.
