The Dibrugarh district administration has ramped up Covid-19 testing at the airport and railway station in view of the second wave of Covid-19 taking a turn for the worse in Assam.
Addressing a press conference, Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said, “We have tightened Covid-19 tests at airport and railway station to detect Covid-19 positive cases. The people should avoid crowding places and maintain social distance,”
He further added, “We have 60 beds with ICU and ventilation at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and another 80 beds will be ready by Wednesday. 500 beds for Covid-19 will be ready in Dibrugarh by Wednesday. We are prepared this time, but appeal to people to follow the protocols.”

The DC also said that the district at present has no shortage of Covid-19 vaccines.
“We have 13,840 Covishield and 4090 Covixin in our hands. Till now, 70116 people have taken first dose of the vaccines and 18240 people have taken the second dose,” said Jha.
Meanwhile, Dibrugarh district administration on Sunday issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for reopening schools from Class VI to XII in view of an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
“We have 419 active cases at present. There is no shortage of oxygen supply in our district,” Jha said.
The district administration has formed special task forces under the circle officers, which will monitor the situation in every place.
The Dibrugarh DC also informed that three counting halls in the DC office and Government Boys’ High School will be set up to avoid crowds on the day of counting on May 2.
“We have already discussed with the political parties and told them to maintain fewer crowds during counting day,” Jha added.
