Dhemaji police have arrested an absconding woman official of Assam cooperative society for her alleged involvement in credit money scam.

Dipanjali Doley Das, field assistant of Asom Bahumukhi Samabai Samiti (ABSS) Ltd’s Jonai branch, was arrested on Tuesday evening from Pagin in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

She has been absconding for last two months.

A team of Dhemaji police led by ASI Krishna Kanta Sarma (I/O) nabbed her from a relative’s house near Pangin town with the help of Arunachal Police.

Arrested Dipanjali was produced before the Sub divisional Judicial Magistrate at Jonai on Wednesday, which sent him two-day police custody (remand).

Police earlier arrested two other accused persons- cashier of the cooperative society Bonti Mili (Tayeng) and collection agent Mousumi Doley (Pegu), who are presently in judicial custody.

Police said that accused Dipanjali Doley Das sought ‘anticipatory bail’ from Gauhatai High Court, which was fixed for hearing this week.

Branch Manager of the Cooperative Society, who lodged complaint with the police, stated that the trio misappropriated about Rs 1.30 crore ‘credit money’ by manipulating financial statements.
