Assam Congress slams BJP Government in State for ‘failing’ to curb crimes against women

The Assam Congress has slammed BJP Government in State for allegedly failing to curb crimes against women.

Congress Lok Sabha MP from Assam – Gaurav Gogoi on Friday launched an all-out attack on the BJP Government in Assam for rising rate of crimes against women in the State.

Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi alleged that under BJP’s rule Assam has turned into the most unsafe place for women in the entire Country.

Gaurav Gogoi said, “Under the BJP, Assam became the worst state for women’s safety in India. In 2019, NCRB placed Assam at No 1 in regards to crimes against women.”

“Instead of becoming best, we are becoming the worst! That’s why Assam has lost trust in BJP,” Gaurav Gogoi added.

Notably, Assam topped the chart for rate of crime against women in the Country for the third consecutive year, as per the 2019 National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures.

In 2019, Assam reported the highest rate of crimes against women at 177.8 per lakh population.
