The Assam Congress on Monday lodged a complaint with a Guwahati police station against minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for ‘promoting enmity and creating disharmony between different communities’.

Assam PCC general secretary Ranjan Bora filed the complaint at the city’s Bhangagarh police station against minister Sarma’s ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ video shared on Facebook.

Sharma on Friday had shared a video on Facebook and claimed that the video showed supporters of AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal shouting “pro-Pakistan” slogans.

APCC senior spokesperson Durgadas Boro charged Sarma for using a sensitive and fake video as a marketing stunt, “to gain political mileage.”

He said, “Had he not deleted the post, it could have worked as an atom bomb. It would have cost the lives of lakhs of people.”

The complaint said that on Nov 7, Sarma made certain remarks on social media intending to create religious tension between two communities.

“He claimed that at Silchar Airport some persons shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ while welcoming a political leader,” added the complaint.

Facebook on Saturday had flagged the video shared by minister Sarma as “false information”.

While removing the video, Facebook had said that it was analysed by independent fact-checkers and the information shared by Sarma had no factual basis.

The AIUDF had clarified that its supporters shouted “Aziz Khan zindabad” for a party MLA.

However, the social media giant on Monday restored the video. “Video is a genuine one and not doctored,” minister Sarma said on Twitter in reply to a user. “Good that the video is restored once again.”
