Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a probe by the criminal investigation department of Assam Police into the death of senior journalist, Parag Bhuyan.
Journalist Bhuyan died after being hit by a car on Wednesday night at Kakopathar in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
He was the younger brother of former Assam minister, Jagadish Bhuyan, who is the chief convenor of the newly-formed political party, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

The CID probe order comes after the family members of the deceased, various organisations, political parties and journalists fraternity smelled foul play and demanded a proper probe into the incident.

@sarbanandsonwal has directed a CID inquiry into the matter,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on its Twitter handle at 9.40 pm on Thursday.

“It may be mentioned that the senior journalist died in a tragic incident today. The CID will thoroughly investigate the entire incident in what situation the journalist died,” said a press release, issued on Tuesday night by the public relations cell of the CM’s Secretariat.
The victim was a senior reporter of the Pratidin Time group and a local reporter for the Axomiya Khabar, an Assamese daily.
Parag Bhuyan was also the vice president of the Tinsukia Press club.
The 53-year-old scribe was hit by a car in front of his home in Kakopathar.
Bhuyan was admitted to the Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh in a critical condition but he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Tinsukia Police have seized the vehicle that was involved in the incident and arrested the driver, James Mura from the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
