Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday constituted a committee to find a logical and permanent solution for the rehabilitation of the families of Laika-Dodhia villages in Tinsukia district.
Assam CM Sonowal discussed the issue of the relocation of Laika-Dodhiya forest villagers with senior officials at the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA).
The meeting was also attended by Assam forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya, panchayat & rural development minister Naba Kumar Doley, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Dhemaji MLA Dr Ranoj Pegu and Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika.

The meeting was attended by senior officials.

Assam CM Sonowal directed the committee to complete the process by January 31, 2021, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) tweeted.
The chief minister further directed the committee to start the process at right earnest and implement the rehabilitation process with a humane touch for benefit of the people.

The step has been taken by the Assam chief minister after the villagers of Laika and Dodhia in the Tinsukia district continued protesting for several days seeking immediate rehabilitation of around 1,480 families.
The protesters set up relief camps at Lezaihola Borguri near the office of the Tinsukia deputy commissioner to pressurize the district administration for fulfilling their demands.
Laika and Dhodhia are two forest villages that fall under Dibru-Saikhowa National Park of Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
