Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday today visited the quarantine centre set up at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati.

He was accompanied by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Chief Minister inspected the facilities made available for screening, registration, testing and quarantine for all symptomatic patients of the state and passengers who are coming from outside the state.

Pursuant to the directive of the Centre, Assam government in its endeavour to combat the surge of coronavirus pandemic, has set up Zonal Health Screening Centre and quarantine centres across the state.

The quarantine centre set up at the indoor stadium of Sarusajai Sports Complex with its two extensions, so far provided quarantine facilities to 2286 persons.

1109 persons have already been released to go to their homes. Moreover, considering the need of more number of quarantine facilities in view of a huge number of passengers of the state coming from outside of Assam, 61 hotels have been earmarked for the people to choose them as quarantine centres.

Chief Minister Sonowal also talked to the officials who are on duty round the clock at the quarantine centres and requested them to render their best possible services to help the people put in the quarantine centres.

Later talking to the waiting reporters, Sonowal thanked everybody for extending their cooperation to the government in its fight against COVID-19.

He also reiterated his government’s commitment to put in its best qualitative efforts to combat the COVID 19 pandemic and help the people who are becoming the victims of the virus.

He at the same time urged upon everybody to fight against the menace of COVID 19 infection and not the persons who are afflicted with the viral infection.
