Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a model residential school at Chagolia Part-I village under Golokganj Legislature Assembly in Dhubri district.

The school will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram of the Union ministry of minority affairs.

Speaking on this occasion, chief minister Sonowal said his government is working hard towards bringing back the lost glory of Dhubri district.

“This school will be a milestone towards the overall development of the district,” said Sonowal adding that in the next coming days, the Assam government will come up with more educational institutes up in the district, including a women’s college.

“When these institutions become functional, produce more educated and disciplined youths, the future of the district will not only be saved in good hands but it will also ensure the overall growth of the district,” Sonowal added.

He also lauded the achievements of his government and claimed that the BJP-led government has been able to carry out most of the developmental works, unlike any other previous governments.

“The much-awaited Rupshi Airport will be made operational in the beginning month of 2020,” Sonowal announced.

Gaurav Bothra, commissioner & secretary to the Assam government for the welfare of minorities & development department said the school is going to be built for educational empowerment of the students belonging to the minority communities of the locality.

The residential school will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 30.42 crore.

After its completion, the school will have one academic and administrative block, 4 hostels for the students with a capacity of accommodating 100 students each.

The school will also have four teachers and staff quarters, the principal’s bungalow and guest house with dining and kitchen facilities, as added by Bothra.

The school will be equipped with all the modern facilities and will be totally free.

It will have a capacity of total of 560 seats, out of which 33 pc seats will be reserved for the scholar girls.

The family members of Golakganj’s BJP MLA Aswani Roy Sarkar, have donated the land measuring 55 bighas for construction of the school.

The names of the land donors are Kalikant Roy Sarkar, Gyan Roy Sarkar, Bishweshwar Sarkar, Dhirendra Roy Sarkar, and Ganesh Chandra Sarkar.

The chief minister in his speech also appreciated all the donors for donating the land for the noble cause.
