Guwahati: Assam chief minister and BJP’s Jharkhand co-in-charge, Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleged that rampant land grabbing by Bangladeshi infiltrators has been going on at Pakur district of Jharkhand.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made this allegation during his visit to Gaibathan village in Pakur district of Jharkhand on Thursday (August 01).

Interacting with the media, CM Sarma highlighted the plight of an Adivasi family, whose land had been allegedly seized despite a court order favouring their rights.

“Today, I visited Gaibathan village of Pakur,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated.

“There is the SPT law, which stipulates that the land of the Adivasis cannot be transferred. However, two Bangladeshi infiltrators have grabbed their land,” Sarma alleged.

He added: “The Court has ordered that these infiltrators should be removed and the Adivasi family should be given their land back, but the administration has not acted on this order.”

Sarma further alleged: “When the Adivasi family attempted to construct a house on their land, they were attacked by these Bangladeshi infiltrators.”

“Even today, they have not got their land back. An Adivasi chief minister of Jharkhand should intervene to help them,” the Assam chief minister said. Sarma claimed that “infiltration is not just an issue; it is a reality in places like Pakur and Sahibganj”.
