A fact-check conducted by Northeast Now revealed discrepancies.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to showcase the transformation of roads in the state, drawing a comparison between the conditions during the Congress government’s tenure and the present under the BJP Government.

In a video posted by CM Sharma on X at 5:51 pm on April 25, 2024, titled “Assam’s roads—before and after Modi Government,” images of roads at two different points in time were juxtaposed.

The video implied that the muddy, pothole-ridden roads depicted were from before the Modi government, contrasted with well-constructed roads supposedly indicative of the BJP government’s tenure.

However, a fact-check conducted by Northeast Now revealed discrepancies. The video featured a Tata vehicle registered on August 16, 2018, and a Grand i10 Nios launched in India only in 2023, suggesting that the footage did not accurately represent the pre-Modi government era.

Another video shared by Chief Minister Sharma on X at 5:53 pm on April 26, 2024, depicted the journey to Guwahati Airport, highlighting the reduction in travel time under the Modi government.

“Travel to Guwahati Airport for commuters had remained an arduous task with the travel time running beyond an hour. No more. The distance is now covered in almost half the time today- this is how Assam’s infrastructure is transforming under the Modi Govt; power of your one vote! Congress ecosystem can live in denial – experience the change; Choose BJP,” CM Sarma wrote on X.

However, scrutiny revealed that a vehicle shown in the “Before” shot was registered on September 14, 2017, indicating that the video did not capture conditions during the Congress government’s tenure.

In both instances, Chief Minister Sharma’s videos were found to be misleading, as they did not accurately represent the conditions before the Modi government came into power.
