Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured full support of the State Government to the NCC “in its endeavour to strengthen the unity of the country and spread nationalism among youth of the state”. 

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made this assurance during his meeting with Additional DG of NCC for Northeast – Major General Ananta Bhuyan. 

Maj Gen Ananta Bhuyan apprised the Assam CM of the various activities being carried out by the NCC in the State. 

“Gen Bhuyan specifically highlighted expansion of NCC in border areas of Assam and introduction of NCC as an elective subject in the Colleges of Assam as per UGC guide lines,” read an official statement.

Notably, the Universities Grants Commission (UGC), recently, had issued an advisory to the vice-chancellors of all universities to include NCC training as General Elective Credit Course. 

Maj Gen Ananta Bhuyan, meanwhile, assured Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma that “NCC cadets are always available to the State administration to perform its role in community service, public awareness campaigns and nation building”.
