Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Centre has responded positively to the proposed elevated corridor in Kaziranga.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that he discussed the project with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during his recent visit to New Delhi.
“I met Nitin Gadkari in Delhi and discussed the elevated corridor in Kaziranga at length. The project is almost on track,” Assam CM Sarma said.
The proposed 35km elevated corridor will be constructed over National Highway 37 passing through the Kaziranga National Park.

Notably, a large area of the Kaziranga National Park remains submerged under water forcing hundreds of animals to cross NH-37 and are killed by speeding vehicles.
“Provided we construct an elevated corridor in Kaziranga, animals can be saved from getting killed by speeding vehicles. The existing stretch of the National Highway will be used by villagers then,” the Assam CM said.
The proposed 35km elevated corridor will be constructed from Jakhalabandha to Bokakhat.
National Highway-37 is the lifeline for the upper Assam districts that connects them with the rest of the state.
