SIVASAGAR: The Maidams of Charaideo in Assam, burial mounds of Ahom royals, are poised to secure UNESCO World Heritage Site status by year’s end.

This was claimed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking at an election rally in Charaideo, Sarma recounted his meeting with PM Narendra Modi, where he pressed for the ‘Maidams’ to be India’s nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.

Sarma also highlighted Modi’s recent visit to Kaziranga National Park, which ‘bolstered’ international attention to the iconic tourist destination.

Amidst enumerating various welfare schemes like ‘Orunudoi’ and ‘Lakhpati Baideo’, Sarma reassured the public of the government’s unwavering commitment.

With a nod to his local moniker ‘Mama’, Sarma invoked trust, coupling ‘Modi ki guarantee’ with ‘Mama ki warranty’ to affirm continued progress under their leadership.
