In a major step towards academics and research development, the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) Guwahati has come up with its self-financed Cell Culture Laboratory.

The Cell Culture Laboratory has an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), approved by the DBT, Govt of India on November 25, 2021.

This is a first-of-its-kind initiative from the self-financed pharmacy institutes in the whole region.

The laboratory was inaugurated by Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University and the Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU) in presence of other distinguished guests.

Prof Gouranga Das, Principal, GIPS Guwahati welcomed the guests and spoke on the need for the laboratory in the institute.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Handique congratulated the institute for its commitment towards research and suggested that all hygienic procedures be followed for the proper maintenance of the lab.

The BSL 2 level lab shall be basically involved in mammalian cell line-based research on cancer drug delivery under its several ongoing research projects funded by various government agencies.
