The carcass of a tigress was recovered in the forest under the Tajeng camp of Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park on Tuesday morning.
The news of the recovery of the dead tigress was immediately intimated to the forest department authorities in the national park by the forest guards on duty.
Later, at the initiative of Kaziranga National Park director P Sivakumar and under the leadership of deputy conservators of forest, Pradip Verma, Khargaram Dekaraja, forest range officer Selim Ahmed, a team of the forest department including veterinarians Dr Biswajit Barua, Dr Arindam Pachoni and Dr Indranee Borgohain reached the spot.
The post-mortem examination was also conducted on the spot.
According to the veterinarians, during the post-mortem examination, deep injury marks in different parts of the tigress were observed.
They also informed that 5 ribs were found broken and a lung was found seriously injured.
The veterinarians suspected that the tigress might have died due to attack from another tiger or tigress just a day’s back.
After the post-mortem, the tigress was cremated in the site where it was found as per the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
