Leader of the Opposition at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia questioned how can Sashi Kanta Das remain a Congress member after accepting a gamusa from the BJP?
Debabrata Saikia stated this after Raha MLA Sashi Kanta Das had a meeting with the Chief Minister of Assam and exchanged souvenirs.
It was reported that the legislator from Congress might join the BJP soon but the Das had denied the claims.
Das told the media that he had only visited the CM and exchanged gamusas which he had brought for home as they were to discuss things related to development.
Das also claimed that he had no intention of joining the BJP.

Reacting to this, Debabrata Saikia said, “I do not understand how can one still be a Congress member after wearing a gamusa belonging to the BJP.”
He added that there were instances when Das was threatened by the militants but that time, Congress stood by him.
“Now, the decision related to the reports and what steps might be taken will be decided by the party leadership”, Saikia added.
