GUWAHATI: In a significant move, the Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved the inclusion of 19 villages into the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as part of the 2020 Bodo Accord.
This decision, made during a Assam Cabinet meeting, marks a key step in fulfilling the commitments outlined in the Bodo Accord.
The decision to incorporate these villages into the BTR aligns with the broader goals of the 2020 Bodo Accord, which seeks to address the aspirations of the Bodo people and enhance the governance and development framework in the region.
In addition to this, the Cabinet also approved several other transformative measures aimed at boosting Assam’s infrastructure and economic growth.
Among these, the Land & Space Lease Management Policy, 2024, stands out as a major initiative designed to attract investments in IT Parks and Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) within the state.
Managed by Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON), this policy is projected to create 8,000 direct and over 100,000 indirect jobs, positioning Assam as a hub for technological innovation and manufacturing.
The Assam Cabinet also took steps to provide relief to small traders by approving a report from a sub-committee on GST-related issues.
This resolution will allow for the rectification of thousands of pending cases from 2017 to 2022, aiming to resolve these matters within three months and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Moran Autonomous Council Act, 2020, and the Matak Autonomous Council Act, 2020, increasing the number of constituencies in both councils from 22 to 27.
Lastly, in an effort to improve educational outcomes in the state, the Assam Cabinet sanctioned the recruitment of 1766 Graduate Mathematics Teachers for provincialized and government schools.
