Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BTC election, which was postponed due to the COVID19 situation would be held by December 2020.
Sarma made the revelation during his visit to the Charidwar area under Sootea Legislative Assembly Constituency in Sonitpur district to inaugurate a gym.
He told reporters that in connection with the BTC election, an all-party meeting will be held on October 6 to take a Cabinet decision on October 7.
“Postponement or not going for the election in BTC is not a political matter it is rather an unwanted issue that occurred due to the CIVID19 pandemic which has crippled the world community,” Sarma said.
Sarma said if everything remains well during October and November, then the BTC election will surely be held in December.
He also said due to clause 6 of the Assam Accord, genuine Indian Nepalis living in the region for decades wouldn’t have to worry.
Sarma, who is also the education minister, mentioned that all the schools and colleges in the state will resume functioning from November.
He hoped that the rate of COVID19 cases will come down towards the end of October month.
Sarma also said the probe into the anomalies in the recruitment process for sub-inspectors in Assam Police is on the right track due to the chief minister’s timely action and by November 30, an error-free examination for the same will be held.
