The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration on Wednesday handed over an appointment letter to one member of the suspected ULB militant who was allegedly killed in a fake encounter in Western Assam’s Kokrajhar on Saturday last.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) CEM Pramod Boro handed over the appointment letter to Sanjib Kumar Brahma, brother of the late Janak Brahma.
The kin of Jwngsar Mushahary, who was also killed in the alleged fake encounter, will accept the appointment letter after a few days, sources said.
BTR chief Pramod Boro said the appointment letter was handed over to the brother of Janak Brahma on compensatory grounds.
He said the government is taking necessary steps for the well-being of the family members of the two deceased persons.
Boro said that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already ordered a commissioner-level inquiry into the incident and those found guilty will be punished as per the law.
Meanwhile, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) along with All Assam Tribal Sangha on Wednesday carried out a protest demonstration in Kokrajhar demanding justice and a judicial inquiry into the alleged fake encounter.
Hundreds of students from different institutions and locals participated in the demonstration at Bodofa Children Park in Kokrajhar. A memorandum was submitted to the chief minister through the Kokrajhar DC.
Participating in the protest demonstration, ABSU president Dipen Boro said such fake encounters will not be tolerated and guilty persons must be punished.
