Nomination of as many as 28 candidates for the second phase of Assam Assembly elections have been rejected by the State Election Commission after scrutiny.
A total of 408 candidates had filed nomination for the second phase of elections in Assam scheduled to be held on April 1.
“39 constituencies go to polls on April 1. Nomination of 28 candidates out of a total of 408 were rejected after scrutiny on Monday,” the Assam State Election Commission informed.
The last date of withdrawal of nomination for the second phase of elections is March 17.

Meanwhile, Assam is gearing up for the first phase of elections on March 27.
A total of 267 candidates are the fray in the first phase of elections.
47 constituencies will go to polls in the first phase of elections.

Fate of CM Sarbananda Sonowal (Majuli), Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami (Jorhat), ministers Ranjit Dutta (Behali), Naba Kumar Doley (Jonai) and Sanjoy Kishan (Tinsukia), along with AGP ministers Atul Bora (Bokakhat) and Keshab Mahanta (Kaliabor) will be sealed on March 27 in the first phase.
Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora (Gohpur), CLP leader Debabrata Saikia (Nazira), AICC secretary Bhupen Borah (Bihpuria) and former ministers Bharat Narah (Naoboicha), Pranatee Phukan (Naharkatiya), Rakibul Hussain (Samaguri) and Bismita Gogoi (Khumtai) are also contesting in the first phase.
Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi from Duliajan and Naharkatia seats, jailed anti-CAA activist and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi from Sibsagar are also in the fray in the first phase of elections.
