Former Congress union minister Rajeev Shukla on Sunday appealed to the people of Assam to begin the process of progress by voting the party to power in the state.
While addressing the media at the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, Shukla said that the public now has the opportunity to vote the BJP out of power for its complete failure to keep the promises that it had made ahead of the state assembly elections in 2016.
“Prime minister Modi does what he does not say and does not do what he says,” said Shukla.
“The Congress if voted to power will fulfill the five guarantees that it has announced for the people of Assam. Our party has the record of fulfilling its promise within 24 hours of coming to power,” said Shukla.
Shukla also said that Modi in his numerous speeches never addresses the issue of accelerating prices of fuel in India.

“Modi had said that his government would bring down the price of petrol to Rs 40 per litre. But it is during his tenure that prices of fuel and diesel are skyrocketing, making it difficult for the common man to procure it,” he said.
‘Modi had promised to not sell the country, but his government is gradually selling the natural resources. His government now wants to sell off the Oil and natural gas Corporation Limited,” he further said.
The BJP government in Assam had promised to provide 25 lakh government jobs in the state, but have in reality provided only 80,000 jobs during the past five years, Shukla said.
