Assam Assembly Elections

Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday made empty promises of building large water reservoirs and channels to solve the perennial problem of floods in Assam.

This is ironic as the BJP governments both in the state and the centre have miserably failed to find a solution to the recurring problem of floods in the state.

Ignoring this fact Shah still hoped that the residents of Majuli, many of who have lost their homes and land to rampant erosion, will fall prey to his tall claims.

He was campaigning in the Majuli constituency on behalf of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.

“Our aim is to make Assam free of floods by building large reservoirs and channels to divert the floodwaters of the raging Brahmaputra. This water will then be used for irrigating the agricultural fields,” said Amit Shah.

“The BJP government here has already freed the state of militancy and corruption and now we will address the problem of floods if we are voted back to power,” he said.
